YouTube has expanded the eligibility
criteria for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and introduced Shorts ads
revenue sharing to eligible creators. To join YPP, Shorts creators must have
over 1,000 subscribers and over 10 million eligible public Shorts views in the
past 90 days. Long-form content creators can still qualify with over 1,000
subscribers and over 4,000 valid public watch hours. The Shorts must be
original content, but third-party content can be transformed using YouTube's
Remix tool.
Starting from February 1, 2023, all
YPP creators that make Shorts and have accepted the new Shorts Monetization
Module will become eligible for Shorts ads revenue sharing on their Shorts
views. With the introduction of Shorts ad revenue sharing, the Shorts Fund is going
away, but it is expected that the majority of Shorts Fund recipients will earn
more with the new Shorts revenue share model.
The Shorts Feed ad revenue will be
pooled, and the revenue from the ads appearing between Shorts in the Shorts
Feed will be added together each month and used to reward monetizing Shorts
creators, as well as cover the costs of music licensing. The Creator Pool will
be calculated based on views and music usage across all watched Shorts, and
revenue associated with Shorts views will be split among the Creator Pool In
addition, revenue associated with Shorts views will be split between the
Creator Pool and music partners based on the number of tracks used. Monetizing
Shorts creators will receive 45% of the revenue allocated to them from Shorts
ads revenue sharing.
